LEARNING THEORIES

BEHAVIOURISM
Based on the assumption that all animal and human behaviours result from a reaction to external stimuli, behaviourism is a learning theory that has been applied for many decades (and still is) to traditionally considered methods of knowledge assessment.
Its core principle revolves around the correct (positive reinforcement) vs incorrect (negative reinforcement) notions. Some examples might range from the sound of clapping hands in dog training, assigning grades in education to Facebook likes on social media.
Behaviourism is strongly associated with the antagonist ideas of praise (passing an exam) and punishment (failing at it).
This week has given me the opportunity not only to reflect on my learning experiences but also to question my own teaching practices.
Quite accidentally, I have come across some very interesting resources which happen to be directly linked to the subject at hand and its implications on (the lack of) learning.
